<description>INFLUENCE OF PROJECT STAKEHOLDERS’ PRACTICE ON PERFORMANCE OF CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS IN KAKAMEGA COUNTY, KENYA
Mwanza, Priscah Wabuti
The purpose of the study was to establish the influence of project management practices on &#13;
performance of construction projects in Kakamega County, Kenya.  The specific objective was to assess the &#13;
influence of project stakeholders’ practice on performance of construction projects in Kakamega County, &#13;
Kenya; The study adopted a mixed research design which included descriptive survey, and correlation. The &#13;
target population was 1761 respondents comprised of 925 Early Childhood Development Education managers, &#13;
62 County polytechnics managers, 765 modern stall managers and 9 managers of County modern markets.  A &#13;
sample size of 326 respondents comprised of 171 managers of Early Childhood Development Education, 11 &#13;
managers of County polytechnics, 142 stall managers and 2 managers of county modern markets. The sampling &#13;
technique that was used was stratified random sampling and purposive sampling. For primary data &#13;
questionnaires was used as the main data collection instruments and was in form of a five likert scale with &#13;
both closed and open ended.  Multiple sources were used to collect secondary data; the respondents filled in &#13;
the answers in the spaces provided to collect information required. Pilot study was done using 32 respondents. &#13;
Reliability was measured using Cronbach’s Alpha. Validity of the instruments was measured using a team of &#13;
experts in the field of project management who are in charge of the area of study. Data was analyzed using &#13;
qualitative and quantitative methods. The study found out that project stakeholders’ practice had a strong &#13;
positive significant influence on performance of construction projects in Kakamega County, Kenya . The study &#13;
recommended that Stakeholders ‘in the construction sector should formulate clear strategies in decision. &#13;

<title>INFLUENCE OF PROJECT PLANNING PRACTICE ON PERFORMANCE OF CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS IN KENYA</title>

<description>INFLUENCE OF PROJECT PLANNING PRACTICE ON PERFORMANCE OF CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS IN KENYA
Mwanza, Priscah Wabuti
The purpose of the study was to establish the influence of project management practices on &#13;
performance of construction projects with a specific objective to determine the influence of planning practice &#13;
on performance of construction projects in Kenya. The study adopted a mixed research design which included &#13;
descriptive survey, census and correlation.  The target population was 1761 respondents with a sample size of &#13;
313 respondents comprised of 160 managers of Early Childhood Development Education, 11 managers of &#13;
county polytechnics, 133 stall managers and 9 managers of county modern markets. The study is of significance &#13;
to policy makers, county governments and academicians. The study found out that project planning practice &#13;
and project stakeholders’ practice had a negative significant influence on performance of construction &#13;
projects. The study also found out that planning gives direction to the activities to be performed in time and &#13;
reduces mistakes. The study therefore recommended that management of the construction projects should have &#13;
competent managers to have plans in place to give direction to the activities to be performed on time and &#13;
reduce mistakes also utilize the project resources adequately

<title>Effect of Compensation on Turnover among Nursing Employees at National Referral Hospitals in Kenya</title>
<link>http://localhost/xmlui/handle/123456789/6747</link>
<description>Effect of Compensation on Turnover among Nursing Employees at National Referral Hospitals in Kenya
Nyaribo, Esther Kerubo
The general objective of the study was to establish the effect of compensation on turnover among nursing employees at &#13;
national referral hospitals in Kenya. The study adopted mixed methods research design and used simple random &#13;
sampling to select a sample of 315 respondents from the 1779 registered nurses working at the 12 national referral &#13;
hospitals in Kenya.  The unit of analysis was national referral hospitals in Kenya while the unit of observation was &#13;
registered nurse managers or their equivalent in charge of wards or units at national referral hospitals in Kenya. &#13;
Positive responses were received as valid from 261 respondents out of the sampled 315 respondents giving an 83% &#13;
response rate. The analyzed data was presented using frequency tables, charts and graphs. The questionnaire was pilot &#13;
tested on respondents drawn from national referral hospitals who were not included in the final research. The study &#13;
generated both qualitative and quantitative data which was collected using Likert scales and was later analyzed &#13;
descriptively using measures of central tendency and inferentially using correlation tests and multiple regression models. &#13;
The data obtained was analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative analysis. Correlation analysis was used to test &#13;
the direction of relationship between independent and dependent variables. The study found out that compensation &#13;
contributes positively but significantly to nursing employees’ turnover at these hospitals. The study therefore concluded &#13;
that it is imperative for the employer of the nursing employees at these hospitals to more emphasis on compensation in &#13;
order to help curtail and/or manage the turnover of the nursing employees at these hospitals more effectively.  This will &#13;
lead to their retention for longer at these hospitals and hence help improve on the quality of services the nursing &#13;
employees at these hospitals provide to customers.  &#13;

<title>Investigations on co-gasification and combustion characteristics of coal biomass blend as an alternative transport fuel for tri-cycles</title>
<link>http://localhost/xmlui/handle/123456789/6695</link>
<description>Investigations on co-gasification and combustion characteristics of coal biomass blend as an alternative transport fuel for tri-cycles
Kariuki, Benson
. Kenya discovered huge deposit of lignite-coal, better utilized through co-gasification to produce syngas, a clean and environmental friendly &#13;
fuel, with easier application in engines. Blends of Mui-basin coal (MBC), Prosporis juliflora(PJ), Hyphanae compressa(HC) and rice husk(RH) were co&#13;
fired with resultant upgraded-syngas operating tricycle engine. Analyzed upgraded-syngas reported improved yields on combustible gases and &#13;
Hydrogen/Carbon-monoxide ratio (low rank to moderate). Calorific values reported 3.2-11.2% increase. At half-load and relative to neat diesel (ND), &#13;
peak-pressure improved by 31.6%(MBC-PJ), 24.0%(MBC-HC) and 14.6%(MBC-RH). Additionally, peak-pressure increases as load increases and shifts &#13;
to the right of top-dead-centre with reported increase of 13.1%MBC-PJ, 15.4%MBC-HC, 18.3 % MBC-RH and 16.5 % for ND. Moreover, Net heat &#13;
release rate (NHRR) in J/degree increased rapidly at 15-25oafter/TDC for all loads and also increased as the load increased with values of 33.4(HC), &#13;
26.8(ND), 28.8(RH) and 37.8(PJ) at no load and 35(HC), 27.8(ND), 30(RH), and 38.9(PJ) at full load condition. The optimal approach for sustainably &#13;
utilization of MBC is through the novel fuel, in which MBC-PJ ranks the best followed by MBC-HC and lastly MBC-RH.
